Episode 78: Gabrielle Bryen

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, host Gin Stephens speaks to Gabrielle Bryen from Bethlehem, PA.

This episode is supported by Dry Farm Wines: Gin has finally solved her wine dilemma by switching to Dry Farm Wines for good!  If you are looking for organic/biodynamic wines that are lab tested to ensure they are sugar free, lower in sulfites, and contain lower alcohol, go to dryfarmwines.com/ifstories to start your own subscription to Dry Farm Wines, and get an extra bottle for just one penny in your first shipment!

Gabrielle is a Retired Army Clinician, has a private therapy practice, and is a mother of five. Gabrielle shares that with each pregnancy, she would gain more weight. While on active duty, and needing to lose weight, she followed a diet that used IF and acupuncture beads. She lost 50 pounds, but eventually gained it all back, and more. She looked for all sorts of diets to lose the weight again.

Gabrielle found IF in May 2019, through Ryan and Kim Smith’s book, Unbelievable Freedom. She then found Gin’s book, Delay, Don’t Deny. Gabrielle joined the Facebook groups for more support. Weight started coming off, but she eventually hit a plateau. Frustrated, she gave Alternate Day Fasting (ADF) a try, but did not like it. She has lost a total of 45 pounds, and has a goal size.

The health benefits of IF for Gabrielle have been decreased pain and inflammation. While serving in Iraq in 2003, she injured her back and had major back surgery. Before IF, she was taking pain meds everyday. IF has helped with her chronic pain and stiffness. She had also developed GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) but no longer needs her reflux meds!

The advice Gabrielle would give new IFers: “Listen to your body. It will tell you what it needs. It’s not an overnight process, but ever-evolving. Your body will change as your life changes. Be kind to yourself, adjust, and keep going!”
